No, thats not the Notorious B.I.G. Thats Jamal Woolard, who has just been cast by Fox Searchlight to play him, Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls, in the upcoming biopic Notorious. Man, the only possible critique I could come up with is that his eyebrows are a little dark. Thats some spot-on casting. Theyre definitely not Dead Wrong. Voletta Wallace, Smalls mom, is happy with the casting as well "it was Jamals charming personality, warm spirit, wonderful sense of humor and beautiful smile that won my heart. He is a talented and charismatic actor and I am excited that he will bring Christophers character to the big screen." Topping that off, Woolard also has the real-life experience to make this pop. The 90-minute premiere episode of the CGI animated series Star Wars The Clone Wars will have a limited release in U.S. cinemas starting August 15th. Not only will this be the first 3-D animated movie for the highly-successful saga, but this will also be the first Star Wars movie not released through Twentieth Century Fox. Fox released all six Star Wars movies, plus the original microseries The Clone Wars on home video. But Warner Bros. and Turner Broadcasting will release Star Wars The Clone Wars this time. The principle reason is that Turners and W.B.s subsidiary, The Cartoon Network, managed to snag the rights to the series from creator George Lucas. Posted November 15, 2006 -- You gotta love Katt Williams, host of the first ever BET Hip-Hop Awards, for holding down one of the hottest awards shows in hip-hop history. Each time Williams hit the stage at Atlantas Fox Theater, the crowd responded with uproarious laughter. Couple that with stellar performances and appearances from a virtual whos who in hip-hop, and youve got one hell of a show. AD The show kicked off with a musical welcome from three of Atlantas own. Ludacris, Young Jeezy and Jermaine Dupri opened the show with an energetic performance of "Welcome To Atlanta." By the songs conclusion, none other than crunk king Lil Jon had joined them on stage as the shows announcer. "Its time to get it started," he yelled in his signature voice. It was as that point that you knew hip hop was definitely in the building. Lil Wayne stunted alongside his "daddy," the Birdman during their performance of "Stuntin Like My Daddy," but no affectionate kiss this night. And as it should be for a show held in the ATL, the South dominated. Ludacris and Young Jeezys explosive performance together shut down any hint of beef between them. Later on in the show, Jeezy held it down solo, bringing the gosteri club (literally) to the stage with "I Love It." Women danced on poles, money filled the air, and feminists cringed in their seats. NEW PAGE The West Coast did represent with performances from soon-to-be-released superstars Snoop and the Game. Snoop brought the audience to their feet with his performance of "Thats That" minus R.Kelly (of course). But it was Comptons own Game, who single-handedly claimed the West Coasts position. Performing two singles from his highly-anticipated album, Doctors Advocate, out this week, Game rocked the crowd with "One Blood" featuring Junior Reid and "Lets Ride." Constantly shouting Picture Me Rollin (a reference to an old 2Pac song), he rhymed in front of a stage full of rims (most likely, 26es as only a true Cali son could do). Following Games performance, Busta Rhymes accepted his award for Best Live Performer. While he paid homage to legendary performers such as Public Enemy, he made it clear that he wasnt impressed with someone on stage that night. T.I. graced the big screen before he even hit the stage. The nights biggest winner with three awards, his voice overpowered the crowd as the screen lifted to reveal the pint-sized MC for his performance of "Down Low." Clearly an ATL favorite, the audience stayed on their feet throughout his show. But the East came hard too, with Jim Jones performing his street anthem "We Fly High," a joint so hot, he had host Katt Williams bopping across the stage and doing push-ups. Then, DJ Unk closed it out with "Walk It Out," with a tightly choreographed set that had the entire audience trying to walk out of their seats and onto the dance floor. With Grandmaster Flash as the recipient of the "I Am Hip-Hop Award" and Flavor Flav stealing the show with his flavorful personality, history was not only honored at BETs first Hip-Hop Awards, but it was also made. But dont be fooled. * By Mark Jacobson * Published Aug 14, 2000 During the early seventies, when for a sable-coat-wearing, Superfly-strutting instant of urban time he was perhaps the biggest heroin dealer in Harlem, Frank Lucas would sit at the corner of 116th Street and Eighth Avenue in a beat-up Chevrolet he called Nellybelle. Then living in a suite at the Regency Hotel with 100 custom-made, multi-hued suits in the closet, Lucas owned several cars. He had a Rolls, a Mercedes, a Corvette Sting Ray, and a 427 muscle job hed once topped out at 160 mph near Exit 16E of the Jersey Turnpike, scaring himself so silly that he gave the car to his brothers wife just to get it out of his sight. But for "spying," Nellybelle was best. "Whod think Id be in a shit $300 car like that?" asks Lucas, who claims hed clear up to $1 million a day selling dope on 116th Street. "One-sixteenth Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenue was mine. I bought it. I ran it. I owned it," Lucas says. "When something is yours, youve got to be Johnny-on-the-spot, ready to take it to the top. So Id sit in Nellybelle by the Roman Garden Bar, cap pulled down, with a fake beard, dark glasses, long wig . . . Id be up beside people dealing my stuff, and no one knew who I was . . ." It was a matter of control, and trust. As the leader of the heroin-dealing ring called the Country Boys, Lucas, older brother to Ezell, Vernon Lee, John Paul, Larry, and Leevan Lucas, was known for restricting his operation to blood relatives and others from his rural North Carolina area hometown. This was because, Lucas says, in his down-home creak of a voice, "a country boy, he aint hip . . . hes not used to big cars, fancy ladies, and diamond rings. Hell be loyal to you. A country boy, you can give him any amount of money. His wife and kids might be hungry, and hell never touch your stuff until he checks with you. City boys aint like that. A city boy will take your last dime, look you in the face, and swear he aint got it . . . You dont want a city boy -- the sonofabitch is just no good." Back in the early seventies, there were many "brands" of dope in Harlem. Tru Blu, Mean Machine, Could Be Fatal, Dick Down, Boody, Cooley High, Capone, Ding Dong, Fuck Me, Fuck You, Nice, Nice to Be Nice, Oh -- Cant Get Enough of That Funky Stuff, Tragic Magic, Gerber, The Judge, 32, 32-20, O.D., Correct, Official Correct, Past Due, Payback, Revenge, Green Tape, Red Tape, Rush, Swear to God, PraisePraisePraise, KillKillKill, Killer 1, Killer 2, KKK, Good Pussy, Tasters Choice, Harlem Hijack, Joint, Insured for Life, and Insured for Death were only a few of the brand names rubber-stamped onto cellophane bags. But none sold like Frank Lucass Blue Magic. "Thats because with Blue Magic, you could get 10 percent purity," Lucas asserts. "Any other, if you got 5 percent, you were doing good. We put it out there at four in the afternoon, when the cops changed shifts. That gave you a couple of hours before those lazy bastards got down there. My buyers, though, you could set your watch by them. By four oclock, we had enough niggers in the street to make a Tarzan movie. They had to reroute the bus on Eighth Avenue. Call the Transit Department if its not so. By nine oclock, I aint got a fucking gram. Everything is gone. Sold . . . and I got myself a million dollars. "Id sit there in Nellybelle and watch the money roll in," says Frank Lucas of those near-forgotten days when Abe Beame lay his pint-size head upon the pillow at Gracie Mansion. But dont be fooled. * By Mark Jacobson * Published Aug 14, 2000 During the early seventies, when for a sable-coat-wearing, Superfly-strutting instant of urban time he was perhaps the biggest heroin dealer in Harlem, Frank Lucas would sit at the corner of 116th Street and Eighth Avenue in a beat-up Chevrolet he called Nellybelle. Then living in a suite at the Regency Hotel with 100 custom-made, multi-hued suits in the closet, Lucas owned several cars. He had a Rolls, a Mercedes, a Corvette Sting Ray, and a 427 muscle job hed once topped out at 160 mph near Exit 16E of the Jersey Turnpike, scaring himself so silly that he gave the car to his brothers wife just to get it out of his sight. But for "spying," Nellybelle was best. "Whod think Id be in a shit $300 car like that?" asks Lucas, who claims hed clear up to $1 million a day selling dope on 116th Street. "One-sixteenth Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenue was mine. I bought it. I ran it. I owned it," Lucas says. "When something is yours, youve got to be Johnny-on-the-spot, ready to take it to the top. So Id sit in Nellybelle by the Roman Garden Bar, cap pulled down, with a fake beard, dark glasses, long wig . . . Id be up beside people dealing my stuff, and no one knew who I was . . ." It was a matter of control, and trust. As the leader of the heroin-dealing ring called the Country Boys, Lucas, older brother to Ezell, Vernon Lee, John Paul, Larry, and Leevan Lucas, was known for restricting his operation to blood relatives and others from his rural North Carolina area hometown. This was because, Lucas says, in his down-home creak of a voice, "a country boy, he aint hip . . . hes not used to big cars, fancy ladies, and diamond rings. Hell be loyal to you. A country boy, you can give him any amount of money. His wife and kids might be hungry, and hell never touch your stuff until he checks with you. City boys aint like that. A city boy will take your last dime, look you in the face, and swear he aint got it . . . You dont want a city boy -- the sonofabitch is just no good." Back in the early seventies, there were many "brands" of dope in Harlem. Tru Blu, Mean Machine, Could Be Fatal, Dick Down, Boody, Cooley High, Capone, Ding Dong, Fuck Me, Fuck You, Nice, Nice to Be Nice, Oh -- Cant Get Enough of That Funky Stuff, Tragic Magic, Gerber, The Judge, 32, 32-20, O.D., Correct, Official Correct, Past Due, Payback, Revenge, Green Tape, Red Tape, Rush, Swear to God, PraisePraisePraise, KillKillKill, Killer 1, Killer 2, KKK, Good Pussy, Tasters Choice, Harlem Hijack, Joint, Insured for Life, and Insured for Death were only a few of the brand names rubber-stamped onto cellophane bags. But none sold like Frank Lucass Blue Magic. "Thats because with Blue Magic, you could get 10 percent purity," Lucas asserts. "Any other, if you got 5 percent, you were doing good. We put it out there at four in the afternoon, when the cops changed shifts. That gave you a couple of hours before those lazy bastards got down there. My buyers, though, you could set your watch by them. By four oclock, we had enough niggers in the street to make a Tarzan movie. They had to reroute the bus on Eighth Avenue. Call the Transit Department if its not so. By nine oclock, I aint got a fucking gram. Everything is gone. Sold . . . and I got myself a million dollars. "Id sit there in Nellybelle and watch the money roll in," says Frank Lucas of those near-forgotten days when Abe Beame lay his pint-size head upon the pillow at Gracie Mansion. "And no one even knew it was me. I was a shadow. A ghost . . . what we call down home a haint . . . That was me, the Haint of Harlem."
