Filmed at Wanda Landowskas home in St. Leu-La-Foret near Paris, 1927 by Karol Liszniewski (my late fathers piano teacher). Wanda Landowska, 1879--1959, Polish-French harpsichordist and pianist, studied at the Warsaw Conservatory. She taught piano (1900--1912) at the Schola Cantorum, Paris, and harpsichord (1912--19) at the Berlin Hochschule. She established her École de Musique ancienne in Paris in 1925. In 1940, she came to the United States, settling in Lakeville, Conn., where she taught and made recordings. Largely responsible for the revival of interest in the harpsichord and its music, she was the teacher of many noted contemporary harpsichordists. Manuel de Falla and Francis Poulenc wrote (1926 and 1929) the first 20th-century harpsichord concertos for her.See her Landowska on Music (1969); documentary film, Landowska Uncommon Visionary (1999), dir. by B. Theres A Party Goin On was Wandas 1961 rock+roll album, very rare. Along with general R+R songs there were two other "Party" songs as followups to Lets Have a Party (not on the album) Man We Had a Party, and the title song, which was original. The first one had been around before as Did We Have a Party. Heres the groove 1) Did We Have a Party by Billy Brown from 1957 2) Man We Had a Party by Wanda 3) Theres a Party Goin On by Wanda 4) Crash the Party by Benny Joy from 1959 None of these were hits. Dont buy a Wanda collection unless it has all 3 party songs. This album is available for download at Amazon. The lead guitarist on this album was Glen Campbell. Lets Have a Party was recorded in 1958 using Gene Vincents group The BlueCaps. The song was simply included on her country album "Wanda Jackson" (Capitol #1041). In 1960 there was the LP "Rockin With Wanda" which included her recent rockabilly singles, but all the songs were not pure R+R. Lets Have a Party was released as a single in 1960 and reached #37, but wasnt widely known at the time. She was mainly Country in her career, only had the one r+r hit on the pop charts, and so is not currently in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Shes still performing and singing well. The incredible finale to the Collins Kids performance at Green Bay featured a surprise guest appearance by Wanda Jackson. The Kids sang Hoy Hoy, and then Wandas "Lets Have a Party". Also on stage that historic night were Deke Dickerson, Dave Stuckey, and Crazy Joe Tritschler on guitar. On Bass, was the dynamic Huey Moor of the Ragtime Wranglers. The MC was none other than Big Sandy.
