Controlled, randomized tests on telephone telepathy have given highly significant positive results. National Health was a progressive rock band associated with the Canterbury Scene. Founded in 1975 by keyboardists Dave Stewart (from Hatfield and the North) and Alan Gowen (from Gilgamesh), the band also included guitarists Phil Miller and Phil Lee and bassist Mont Campbell as original members. Bill Bruford was the initial drummer but was soon replaced by Pip Pyle. Campbell was replaced by Neil Murray and then John Greaves. A frequently changing lineup toured extensively and released two LPs of often lengthy, mostly instrumental, complexly scored compositions before splitting up in 1980. After the May 1981 death of Gowen, remaining members reconvened to record the album D.S. Al Coda, a set of compositions by Gowen, most previously unrecorded. The original albums and additional archival material have subsequently been released on CD. Return of a Legend Grupo Folklórico Y Experimental Nuevayorquino is one of the best-kept secrets in New Yorks musical history. In the mid-1970s several of the best Latin Jazz musicians in the city got together in the basement of brothers Andy and Jerry González (bass and percussion/trumpet). They included percussionist Milton Cardona, rumba singer Virgilio Martí and salsa stars such as Chocolate Armenteros (trumpet) and Reinaldo Jorge (trombone). A fleet of lifting bodies flown at the NASA Flight Research Center, Edwards, California, from 1963 to 1975 demonstrated the ability of pilots to maneuver (in the atmosphere) and safely land a wingless vehicle. These lifting bodies were basically designed so they could fly back to Earth from space and be landed like an aircraft at a pre-determined site. (In 1976 NASA renamed the FRC as the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center in honor of Hugh L. Dryden.) In 1962, FRC Director Paul Bikle approved a program to build a lightweight, unpowered lifting body as a prototype to flight test the wingless concept. It would look like a "flying bathtub," and was designated the M2-F1. It featured a plywood shell, built by Gus Briegleb (a sailplane builder from El Mirage, California) placed over a tubular steel frame crafted at the FRC. Construction was completed in 1963. The success of the Flight Research Center M2-F1 program led to NASA development and construction of two heavyweight lifting bodies based on studies at the NASA Ames and Langley research centers--the M2-F2 and the HL-10, both built by the Northrop Corporation, Hawthorne, California. The Air Force also became interested in lifting body research and had a third design concept built, the X-24A, built by the Martin Company, Denver, Colorado. It was later modified into the X-24B and both configurations were flown in the joint NASA-Air Force lifting body program located at Dryden. The X-24B design evolved from a family of potential reentry shapes, each with higher lift-to-drag ratios, proposed by the Air Force Flight Dynamics Laboratory. To reduce the costs of constructing a research vehicle, the Air Force returned the X-24A to Martin for modifications that converted its bulbous shape into one resembling a "flying flatiron" -- rounded top, flat bottom, and a double-delta planform that ended in a pointed nose. First to fly the X-24B was John A. Manke, a glide flight on August 1, 1973. He was also the pilot on the first powered mission November 15, 1973. Among the final flights with the X-24B were two precise landings on the main concrete runway at Edwards, California, which showed that accurate unpowered reentry vehicle landings were operationally feasible. These missions were flown by Manke and Air Force Maj. Mike Love and represented the final milestone in a program that helped write the flight plan for the Space Shuttle program of today. After launch from the B-52 "mothership" at an altitude of about 45,000 feet, the XLR-11 rocket engine was ignited and the vehicle accelerated to speeds of more than 1,100 miles per hour and to altitudes of 60,000 to 70,000 feet. After the rocket engine was shut down, the pilots began steep glides towards the Edwards runway. As the pilots entered the final leg of their approach, they increased their rate of descent to build up speed and used this energy to perform a "flare out" maneuver, which slowed their landing speed to about 200 miles per hour--the same basic approach pattern and landing speed of the Space Shuttles today. The final powered flight with the X-24B aircraft was on September 23, 1975. The pilot was Bill Dana, and it was also the last rocket-powered flight flown at Dryden. It was also Dana who flew the last X-15 mission about seven years earlier. Top speed reached with the X-24B was 1,164 miles per hour (Mach 1.76) by Love on October 25, 1974. The highest altitude reached was 74,100 feet, by Manke on May 22, 1975. The X-24B is on public display at the Air Force Museum, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Watch in high quality! This footage is from five consecutive rounds on VALVes new arena mode at arena_ravine. The games were played on the SourceOP public arena server. I added effects to the footage to slow down important parts to make it easier to analyze (and more fun to watch), but other than that there was no cutting or clipping of footage. Its continuous game-play. When the camera freezes, you should be looking around in the background because those are the important moments where I make a crucial decision. Positional luck is often a common thing for spies, but I tried to slow the camera down and pause it so that you can see what the exact situation is and what action I took to get into good positions for my team. This video is mostly a fun exercise for me in video editing, which Im trying to learn. I had fun playing these rounds, and going through the footage again to edit it was good practice. This follow-up to my previous videos summarizes the current design for the benefit of those that are experimenting with Model 30 based engines. Model 32 is not yet finished but most of the mechanics are in place. Its been dry run & tested for compression, friction & wear. Performance so far is superior to Model 30. Completing the control electronics & firmware will require more time. Model 32 is similar to Model 30 (previous videos) except that the rotors are steel lined with graphite; the vanes pivot (rather than slide); vane engagement is electronically controlled; seals, accuracy & fit are improved; parts count & reciprocating masses are reduced; rotor phase angle is adjustable to provide expansion ratios approaching 30 1; compression ratios are adequate for burning vegetable/diesel oil using direct fuel injection; the Lexan cover is replaced by a dimensionally more stable aluminum reinforced plate glass. Fins will be routed into the exterior body as needed for cooling. I should finish evaluating Model 32 by fall 07. The next design (Model 33) inherits much from Model 32, except that it uses 1 rotor & 2 vanes. The purpose of this open source program is to develop more fuel efficient ICEs capable of operating on a variety of fuels for the benefit of our environment, our economy & our future. This material is offered freely in the hope that it may be useful & inspiring to tinkerers world-wide wishing to improve Internal Combustion Engine technology. -Dave

I work up to demonstrating the Blender on simultaneous compressed air and water pressure. It works great! I got a little wet, though! Note that the theoretical probability of rolling a 4 is 1/6 (1 favorable outcome) / (6 possible outcomes), but the experimental probability may be different from 1/6. For example, if a student tosses the number cube 6 times and fails to toss a 4, the experimental probability will be 0/6, or 0. Students learn that experimental probability approaches theoretical probability as the number of trials increases. For example, if a student tosses the number cube 100 times, the experimental probability of rolling a 4 will approach 1/6.

TwP is the final project for my senior capstone at the University of Maine, titled New Media Machinima. The live-action elements were filmed using an HD Sony handicam, while all of the machinima aspects were generated in the Source Engine by Valve. Both were blended together in Adobe After Effects to create the project you see here. I dub this an experimental machinima because machinima is hybridized with more conventional filmmaking in this project, rather then being the dominant medium. Honda Motor Company unveiled its second experimental walking assist device that helps support bodyweight to reduce the load on an individuals legs while walking, going up and down stairs, and in a semi-crouching position. The device is designed for people who are capable of walking and maneuvering on their own, but who can benefit from additional leg and body support while performing tasks. Honda will now begin testing the device in real-world conditions to evaluate its effectiveness.
